Job Title: Senior Scrum Master
Location: Reston, VA
Local candidates only (Hybrid – Onsite 1x/week)
Type: 12-Month Contract
Overview: We are seeking an experienced
Senior Scrum Master to support two Agile Scrum teams within a SAFe environment. This is a
hybrid, local-only opportunity with a leading enterprise organization. The ideal candidate is a
certified Scrum Master with experience in
SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban , and has a strong servant-leader mindset. Familiarity with
Java and
AWS is a plus, though not required.
Responsibilities: - Serve as Scrum Master for two Agile teams , facilitating all core ceremonies: daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Guide teams in Agile best practices and SAFe principles , promoting continuous improvement and a Lean-Agile mindset.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, and stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment.
- Drive team-level metrics, velocity tracking, and remove impediments to maintain delivery flow.
- Participate in and/or facilitate PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and ART-level coordination activities.
- Support cross-team collaboration and foster strong inter-team relationships.
- Mentor teams on Kanban principles and promote flow-based work management as appropriate.
Required Qualifications: - 8+ years of experience working in Agile environments, with 3+ years as a Scrum Master or Kanban Lead .
- Experience working in SAFe Agile Release Trains (ARTs) .
- Strong understanding of Agile/Lean frameworks: Scrum , Kanban , SAFe .
- Proven ability to coach teams to Agile maturity and facilitate Agile ceremonies effectively.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience using Agile tools such as Jira, Rally, Azure DevOps, etc.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple responsibilities.
Preferred Skills: - Experience with Java development teams and/or AWS environments (not required but a plus).
- Experience with value stream mapping, system-level optimizations, or applying Lean techniques .
- Familiarity with DevOps , Test Automation , and modern software delivery pipelines.
Certifications (Required/Preferred): - Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) – Required
- SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) – Preferred
- SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) – Nice to have
